Annie McBride

Director of Strategic Initiatives, Diversity and Equity
Primary office:
Strong Hall 250
University of Kansas

Annie McBride (she, her, hers) is originally from Omaha, Nebraska and attended the University of Kansas for her undergraduate experience. While at KU earning her Bachelor of Science in Journalism, Annie was involved with the Office of Multicultural Affairs, KU Student Housing, and the Center for Community Outreach. Upon graduation, Annie did a brief stint working in politics in Portland, Oregon and then quickly realized that her passions lie outside of politics. Thus, her decade-long career in retail management began. In 2010, Annie returned to the KU to pursue her Master of Science in Education, specifically focused on Higher Education Administration. During graduate school, Annie completed an assistantship in the Emily Taylor Center for Women & Gender Equity and served as the community service chair for her graduate cohort.

In 2012, Annie moved to Los Angeles, California to work as the Assistant and then Associate Director of Student Life and Inclusion at Marymount California University (MCU). After four years at MCU, Annie moved to Kansas for the fourth time to rejoin the Emily Taylor Center for Women & Gender Equity as the Assistant and then Associate Director. In the summer of 2018, Annie joined the Office of the Provost to serve as the Director of Projects and Policy Development for the Vice Provost for Diversity and Equity. In this role, Annie works closely with the Vice Provost on projects for students, staff, and faculty, related to diversity, equity, and inclusion.

A few projects include: planning the Big 12 Diversity Officer annual meeting, creating a Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion badge for students, working towards the creation of the Lawrence LGBTQ+ youth group, and assisting with a variety of workgroups and committees on campus to create a more equitable KU for all Jayhawks. Annie also supervises the engagement coordinator and executive associate, as well as the Tudor/Rieger Scholarship Advisor and graduate assistants for Diversity and Equity.
