Summary

Emily serves as the Managing Director for the Multicultural Scholars Program in the Office of Diversity and Equity. In her previous role, Emily served as the Program Coordinator for Diversity Education and Social Justice Programs for 4 years in the Office of Multicultural Affairs (OMA). During her time in the OMA, Emily was responsible for programming, trainings, and co-coordinating the Safe Zone trainings for KU faculty and staff in collaboration with the Center for Sexuality and Gender Diversity. Emily was also an instructor for UNIV 101, LDST 303, 304, and HNRS 190. She just completed her 3 year term as Staff Senator where she served on University Senate as well as on the University Senate Executive committee for the 2018-2019 academic year. Since 2015, Emily has served as a committee member on the KU Powwow & Indigenous Cultures Festival which was named KU Team of the Year in 2019.

Emily moved to Kansas after spending 6 cold but wonderful years in Madison, Wisconsin. During her time at the University of Wisconsin, Emily worked in the Department of Spanish & Portuguese, the Center for Academic Excellence, a 2-year retention program for marginalized students, and was the first Wisconsin Center for Educational Research Network Fellow, a non-partisan collaboration with the Wisconsin State Legislature and the Wisconsin School of Education.

Throughout her time in higher education, Emily has served in numerous roles and has worked in a variety of units that specifically focus on curriculum, diversity, social justice, equity, retention, and educational policy. Her areas of research include social justice curriculum, critical race theory, and ecological models for retention & persistence within higher education.
