Invitation to Stand in Solidarity with Indigenous Communities

Dear Students, Staff, and Faculty -

In recognition and celebration of Indigenous Peoples’ Day, the First Nations Student Association (FNSA) at the University of Kansas have been invited by Chancellor Girod to raise their tipi on the lawn in front of Strong Hall from Wednesday, October 13th, to Friday, October 15th.

FNSA invites those interested in participating and learning the cultural relevance to the raising of such a symbolic display of resilience and honor to join them today (October 13th) at 4:00pm on the lawn of Strong Hall. This is a monumental opportunity to recognize Indigenous People, the important impact they have on the University’s history, and to celebrate Indigenous excellence and culture, today and every day.

The Office of Diversity, Equity, Inclusion & Belonging is honored to support and assist FNSA and invites all Lawrence community members to visit the FNSA tipi as part of our university’s extended celebration of Indigenous Peoples’ Day. Additionally, our office is committed to ensuring the safety of the FNSA tipi and will provide additional security.

Thank you all,

The Office of Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Belonging
