Jennifer F. Hamer has served as the Vice Provost of Diversity & Equity since June 2017, and as the acting Vice Provost since February 2017. Prior to her roles in the Provost Office she was the Associate Dean of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion in the Dean's office of the College of Liberal Arts & Sciences, and the Chair of American Studies. She received her Ph.D. from the University of Texas-Austin. Her general area of study is the sociological and qualitative study of families, especially those within the United States. Within this broad field, her primary research interests are African American fathers, mothers, and families, especially those that are urban, low-income and working class.
