Biography

Fernanda Lopez is originally from Plainview, Texas. During middle school years, her family moved to Kansas and ended up settling in Manhattan, Kansas. Fernanda attended Kansas State University where she obtained her bachelor’s degree in Business Management with an emphasis in Marketing. Throughout her time at K-State, Fernanda was a part of the Multicultural Academic Program for Success and the Pilots Program, both opportunities allowed her to work with other first-generational students and learn more about working directly with a diverse group of people, and especially students!

After college, Fernanda explored the world of marketing and sales and while she enjoyed that position, she quickly realized that there was something missing. This led Fernanda to Salina, KS where she joined the Student Services team at the Salina Area Technical College. This position opened her eyes to working in post-secondary education and the possibilities it could lead to working with diverse groups of people including students, staff, and faculty! Fernanda joined KU in January of 2021 and transitioned to the Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging team in August of 2021, she has enjoyed becoming an asset to such an important group of people and being a part of the efforts DEIB puts forth into continuing to make KU a better place for everyone.

In her spare time, Fernanda enjoys spending time with her two fur babies, Archie, and Aspen. She enjoys spending time with close friends and family and traveling to have new experiences!
